This elegant butterfly stool is designed by Japanese designer Sori Yanagi who got the award in Finland design competition in 1957, the Butterfly Stool unmistakably modern while displaying an unmistakable Japanese sensibility. The stool is made from two curving and inverted L-shaped beechwood sections, each forming one leg and half of the seat. A metal rod midway between the legs serves as a stretcher and holds the stool together. Simply, a soaring design of molded plywood and steel.

Sori Yanagi is one of the most famous product designers in Japan. Born in 1915 in Tokyo, Sori Yanagi attended art school and worked from 1940 to 1942 in the office of the designer Charlotte Perriand. In 1952, Sori Yanagi founded the Yanagi Industrial Design Institute, which created a prolific number of articles of daily use and furnishings. His organic forms combine western industrial designs with Japan’s native artisanal traditions. This successful synthesis made Sori Yanagi one of the most significant Japanese designers of the post-war era. In addition to furniture, he also designed lighting, glass objects, cutlery, children’s toys, metro stations, cars and motorcycles.

Sori Yanagi’s designs reflect an exemplary understanding of industrial production without losing the lightness and delicacy that is a characteristic of Japanese traditional design. His poetic approach to design is reflected in the butterfly stool, whose clever design is made up of two identical pieces of moulded plywood, held together with a simple brass fitting. The result is a shape reminiscent of the gates of Shinto shrines and is thus Asian in expression; on the other hand, it resembles the wings of a butterfly, from which it derives its name.

Place is a Sydney based team, so the delivery lead time may be a little bit longer for the areas outside Sydney, but we believe that our product is worth your patience. Base on your purchase(s), we use different freight carriers to deliver our products. All items in stock will be dispatched within 3 business days and delivery lead times are as follows:

Damaged Goods


Place will doing the best to make sure your purchases are under perfect condition when they arrive to you. But in very rare cases, if you receive a faulty or damaged item, we require you to send us the evidence of the damage/fault such as photographic or video footage within 24 hours via email to sales@place-furniture.com.au. So we highly recommend you to inspect the item(s) as soon as you receive it (them), it is the customers’ responsibility to adhere to our claims process including providing proof of damages and arranging for products to be returned for inspection. Any damages or faults reported after 24 hours will be treated as a warranty claim and the customers will be solely liable for the shipment cost in the claim process.

All items must be in original wrappings and packaging and not assembled or part assembled in any way.

Return


We hope you will be delighted with your purchase, but sometimes you just get it wrong or sometimes it’s not what you expect, so if you wish to return the item, we aim to make it as quick and convenient as possible. Our policy is simple, if you are not 100% satisfied with your purchase, we promise a refund, credit or exchange, whatever you prefer.

The item need to be returned within SEVEN days of purchase as long as the item is in exactly the same condition as when purchased. All items must be in original wrappings and packaging and not assembled or part assembled in any way.

Prior to returning goods, customers need to fill in a Return Authorization Form (please send email to sales@place-furniture.com.au to request) and get Place Furniture’s approval, any unauthorized return will not be accepted.

It is the customers’ responsibility to ensure that returned items are returned safely. Place Furniture takes no responsibility for lost goods and the customers will be solely liable for the shipment cost of the return.

Custom Made Items


Buyer has the responsibilities to ensure custom ordered items are what they are after. We do not offer a refund for custom ordered products due to change of mind. All lead times quoted are an approximation and Place Furniture takes no responsibility for production or customs delays.

Warranty


Place Furniture provides a 12 month warranty on all products (unless otherwise stated in product detail page). Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, commercial use, damage arising from abnormal use, not properly maintained and being modified goods. Place Furniture has the ultimate discretion to obtain proof of purchase and any further information to decide on warranty outcomes. Products will be repaired or replaced, depending on product circumstances and it is solely at Place Furniture’s discretion.

Order Cancellation


Contact us if you want to cancel your order, we will do a full refund if the items are still not being dispatched from our warehouse, if otherwise, shipping cost will not be included with the refund.
