In the mid-1950's, Verner Panton converted a Volkswagen van into a mobile studio and traveled across Europe. In 1958 he returned to Denmark with full of unconventional ideas, one of which evolved into the iconic Heart Cone Chair. Defying gravity, the cone was both futuristic and shocking, so much so that when it was exhibited in a shop window in New York, the police had to order its removal due to the traffic chaos its presence created. Verner Panton is the ‘enfant terrible’ of Danish furniture design. Characterized by Poul Henningsen as “stubborn and forever young” Panton used his imagination and enthusiasm to combine high-tech materials, playful shapes and an array of bold colours, until an entirely new and different idiom emerged.
After graduating from the Royal Academy in Copenhagen in 1951, he worked briefly at Arne Jacobsen’s architectural office, before setting off in his Volkswagen van in a bid to explore Europe and at the same time find possible investors. He returned to Denmark, not with contracts, but full of ideas, and soon after landed his first major job – designing the interior of the Komigen Inn. This resulted in “the Cone Chair”, which was placed in an all-red setting, causing sensation.
Panton’s most well-known piece is without doubt his “Panton Chair” (or “Stacking Chair”), designed in 1960. It wasn’t until 1968, after many attempts that the American company Herman Miller finally succeeded in putting it into mass production: The world’s first one-piece moulded plastic chair. It was an instant success, and with its sleek shape and bright colours it became a sixties style icon.

Any damages or faults reported after 24 hours will be treated as a warranty claim and the customers will be solely liable for the shipment cost in the claim process.

The item need to be returned within SEVEN days of purchase as long as the item is in exactly the same condition as when purchased. All items must be in original wrappings and packaging and not assembled or part assembled in any way.

It is the customers’ responsibility to ensure that returned items are returned safely. Place Furniture takes no responsibility for lost goods and the customers will be solely liable for the shipment cost of the return.

Buyer has the responsibilities to ensure custom ordered items are what they are after. We do not offer a refund for custom ordered products due to change of mind. All lead times quoted are an approximation and Place Furniture takes no responsibility for production or customs delays.
Place Furniture provides a 12 month warranty on all products (unless otherwise stated in product detail page). Warranty does not cover normal wear and tear, commercial use, damage arising from abnormal use, not properly maintained and being modified goods. Place Furniture has the ultimate discretion to obtain proof of purchase and any further information to decide on warranty outcomes. Products will be repaired or replaced, depending on product circumstances and it is solely at Place Furniture’s discretion.
